What are the clinicians prompted by?

Professor Paul Zimmet (MD, Ph.D., honorary director of the Baker IDI heart and Diabetes Institute, Melbourne, Australia, Monash University Professor, University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Professor) , during an interview, said the study was partially copied the studies of he and his team published 20 years ago and the results other studies have shown.
In the entire study population, the prevalence of LADA is three times larger than the prevalence of autoimmune type 1 diabetes (377 patients vs 114 patients), the odds ratio was 3.3. Other analysis showed that compared with patients of GADA with lower levels, patients of high GADA titer and type 1 diabetes are more similar (younger, leaner, treated with insulin, etc.), but in a variety of the GADA titer we can see in the scope of each type of autoimmune diabetes. Hawa and colleagues point out.
"This is a very large research, but in fact it only confirm a lot of information about the LADA published by other scholars in the past 20 years. Positive side is that this study provide further important reminder for clinicians, including primary care physicians: You must realize that LADA is a high prevalence of the disease, especially in the European population." Dr. Zimmet (co-Leader of Epidemiology and Prevention Working Group of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) ) said in an interview.
He said antibody testing fee for all adult-onset diabetes and clinical benefits are not high, but the detection of GADA in healthy adults is meaningful, especially in those of European descent and obese patients with type 2 diabetes failed in the conventional therapy. Dr. Zimmet realized that this possibility is the key.

The Origin of Antibody Drug In Modern Time

In 1997, the FDA approved Rituximab for the treatment of B-cell lymphoma. This is a milestone achievements making the monoclonal antibody research back to life. After Royston, the co-founder of IDEC company and the main person in charge of research and development by Rituximab, left the San Diego. Out of the curiosity of history and the admiration of the predecessors, he has always wanted to see Royston, and finally the opportunity came. Every April, the world's antibody experts gather "the Athens of America" in Boston, discussing antibody engineering and drug research and development, called the "Protein Engineering Summit (PEGS). As a member of the the PEGS Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) in 2012, I served as the chairman of the meeting of the tumor antibodies, invited Royston to do the Keynote report of the General Assembly.
In 1981, Miller and Levy found one case suffering from follicular B-cell lymphoma can be cured with a murine anti-idiotype antibodies. Therefore, Royston established IDEC company specialized preparation of these personalized anti-idiotype antibody to each B-cell lymphoma patients. This may be the earliest "personalized medicine" of a bold attempt! Later, IDEC found the method is not economically feasible, but accidentally discovered the anti-CD20 "IDEC-C2B8" (Rituximab). They found that the antibody antigen in patients with B-cell lymphoma is not so serious actually. This phenomenon has also been confirmed in other antibody therapy for B-cell cancers. Furthermore, a later study gradually found that the reason why Rituximab is effective is associated with its many mechanism. The ADCC and CDC in it both have antibodies, but also it can induce tumor cell apoptosis. Royston also interestingly told about an interesting story of his early laboratory. That coincidence or even misunderstanding led to what may be the first time in human history with the fully human antibody treatment of cancer patients. For that reason, He also be interviewed on the U.S. national TV news. In short, whatever the adhere, coincidence, luck, or the final thrive after the studies of numerous laboratory, Rituxmab really opened up the road of the dream leading to tumor antibody treatment. Although this road is still long and difficult, we still need to give all out efforts to discover.

Targeted proteomics reveals human embryonic stem cells

The researchers from North Carolina State University have developed a new technique to identify protein secreting by cells. This new approach should help researchers to collect accurate data on cell biology.
In the new study, the new method developed by researchers is based on the fact: each cell wraps its protein by using its secreting pathway. Each cells synthesizes protein, and then transport it in this way: to wrap it in a film pouch, and ultimately it is transported to the extracellular domain.
In this new technique, researchers collected cell samples and isolated the protein-containing organelles in the secretory pathway. Then they use mass spectrometry to analysis the substances in these organelles in order to observe which protein cell is secreting. They can identify the mouse embryos into fiber cells and protein secreting by human embryonic stem cells by using this method.
This new method is able to assess problems associated with protein found in the cell culture medium. But it also allows researchers to track the changes when the cells react from stimulus (such as exposure to a chemical) and secretes protein. This is really a very good development for the protein field, because it can help scientist analysis the protein instead of the old way. This technology can save a lot of time compared with the old one. Also there are many other advantages that I can’t tell you all. If you are interested, you can go to some lab and experienced it.

stressed externalization strategy

Mikael Dolsten, president of Pfizer Global Research and Development Department in the UBS Global Life Sciences general meeting on September 20 this year, said: "We started to pay attention to some core areas, with emphasis on externalization strategy, including select future CRO partners Union. Acquisition and cooperation of other biotechnological firms will also be build, establishing a really strong cooperation network with academia. " In addition, Dolsten said in its recent speech, Pfizer has terminated about 90 proof-of-concept stages of the project. Pfizer's current research areas have priority in several major areas of immunology and inflammation, cancer, cardiovascular disease, metabolic and endocrine diseases, neuroscience and pain, vaccine, including small molecules and macromolecular drugs. In addition to reducing the areas of focus of the disease, Pfizer still re-adjust and reduced its R & D activities, and outsourced certain functions. For CRO, Pfizer selected 2 (ICON and PAREXEL) from the original 17 functional service providers as strategic partners of the clinical trials. Beginning in 2010, Pfizer established Treatment Innovation Center(CTI). And the center is an opening innovation cooperation model, which transferred biological treatment methods (antibodies, peptides and proteins) and other drugs of therapeutic areas into the application of clinical applications.
Comments: Lipitor, since the market in 1998, has been the main source of income for Pfizer. If Pfizer is unable to generate a "blockbuster" mothball army, it will be difficult to glorious again. However, after the failure of Torcetrapib, Dimebon, and a series of key drug candidate by experiencing late clinical trials. Pfizer had to seek the support of an outside laboratory. Therefore, targeted acquisitions and cooperation to acquire jointly developing new drugs or the right to operate has become one of the most important strategies for patent cliff the Pfizer deal with.

Big Events Happened In April

The Express Scripts had an acquisition of the Medco Health Solutions. The Express Scripts for the nation's largest pharmacy benefit management company has an acquisition of the Medco Health Solutions for about $ 29.1 billion and become the nation's largest pharmacy benefit management company after the merger. The two companies could save consumers up to 10 million worth of drugs expenditure. Comment: The Express Scripts in the United States are increasingly concerned about the cost-effectiveness. The Express Scripts controls nearly 1/3 prescriptions of the U.S. And this does good for the prescription drug business to conducive to the company's negotiations with drug manufacturers to secure more discounts. Right now, the Obama administration is committed to reducing the costs of health care, and make it as part of its plans to expand the coverage of medical insurance. In this context, in 2012, the pharmacy benefit management industry make a large-scale consolidation, through mergers and other means to improve competitiveness. On the other hand, the economic recession forces customers of the pharmacy benefit management agencies to scramble to find savings in the healthcare process, thus contributing to the rise of the mergers and acquisitions of the U.S. pharmacy benefit management industry. This kind of merges and acquisitions is a normal phenomenon in the market. It is some kind of the circle of glory and decay, which happens everyday. We can heard from the media that a big company has a bankrupt and be merged by the other firm of the same industry. That is the M&A.
